Hope from a worker at the dollarama

I was walking through a dollarama and stumbled upon these wonderfully cute lions for my VBS class this year. The problem...I found 2 and I needed 8. So I raced around town visiting 2 other dollaramas until I was able to pick up all 8. But during the process of searching which took all afternoon, not knowing if I'd be able to find more lions...I was frantic. When I got to my 2nd dollarama, I also found just 1 which got me started thinking along the path of 'maybe this isn't going to work...is it really worth all this effort?' Then I decided to ask a worker if there were anymore but I already assumed that she wasn't going to be much help. And this comes from my past experiences at dollaramas ie. they've sent me to wrong aisles, didn't care enough to help out of their convenience...(which is what I feel has become the general mentality for those in the work place, myself included) Anyway, so I approached this lady and asked if there was a chance at all that there would be more stuffed lions. To my surprise, she was the exact opposite of what I expected. She left her work station of putting out products and took time to help me. She looked in the back and when there weren't any there, she stopped and thought about other options. She ended up leading me back to the aisle of stuffed toys and we looked through 4 large boxes of assorted stuffed animals still wrapped in plastic sitting on top of the shelves...I took all that they had, which were only 3. I ultimately collected the last 2 at the 3rd dollarama.

Though this situation may seem trivial and insignificant for someone else, it is this very interaction that has given me hope in humanity. In believing that people really aren't just lazy and selfish...but have a desire to help others even if it inconveniences them, even if they don't receive much in return or anything at all. And now that VBS is over and I got to use the lions, I have realized how significant this experience has been. It is because of this lady worker at the dollarama on Dundas that I was able to effectively teach children about God's love. It is because of this lady, that I have been encouraged to keep on trying. And it is because of this lady, who valued her job enough and cared enough for me and my situation to help me find 3 measly little stuffed toys, that each child in my class might have a better chance of remembering who God is and their VBS experience whenever they see their stuffed lion.

...now how cool is that!
